Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko does not give up his political ambitions. He plans to take part in the next presidential election.
He said this in an interview with Al Jazeera English.
Poroshenko answered the journalist’s question about his participation in the upcoming elections in the affirmative. According to him, this will be possible only after Ukraine wins the war against Russia. In addition, the politician wants to run for the European Parliament when he gets the chance.
It is worth noting that the topic of the presidential election in Ukraine has been raised in the media before. After all, if not for the war, the term of the current President Zelensky would have come to an end this spring. The first round was scheduled for March 31, and the second round for April 21.
President Zelenskyy himself emphasized that he did not cancel the elections and would have preferred them to go ahead as planned, but the full-scale war was an obstacle. The law explicitly prohibits the holding of any elections during martial law.
Moreover, the state must ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to vote. And it is impossible to do this when millions of Ukrainians are abroad and another part is under occupation.
