Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has received consent from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to be appointed ambassador to the United Kingdom.
This is stated in the information posted on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The report also states that the Ukrainian foreign ministry has sent a request for the appointment to the British side.
In his address to the nation the night before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the appointment of an ambassador to the United Kingdom.
He confirmed that Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, had expressed a desire to move to the diplomatic sphere.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated the procedure for obtaining an agriman for him. The President emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with the UK.
In late February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Valeriy Zaluzhnyy from his position as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The president explained his decision by saying that it was time for a reboot, restructuring, and change of management in the army. Zelenskyy noted that these changes do not mean a change in the country’s overall defense strategy. Instead, they are aimed at improving management and optimizing processes that have remained unchanged for a long time.
