Radoslaw Sikorski, who heads the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that Warsaw will provide funds in the future as part of the Czech initiative to purchase weapons for Ukraine outside the EU.
The politician said this in an interview with Yevropeiska Pravda.
The journalist asked whether media reports were true that Poland had not yet funded the Czech initiative, despite having provided commitments. The official confirmed the information and explained that these were only temporary formal obstacles.
He noted that the state has already made a decision to allocate €50 million this year and another €50 million next year. However, certain issues have arisen, in particular in the technical, administrative and legal fields, which are directly related to the State Agency for Strategic Reserves.
According to him, in this situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already fulfilled some of its obligations. So he can only hope that his colleagues from other departments will fulfill all other agreements. He believes they will do so for sure.
He was also asked about Ukraine’s request to Poland to shoot down Russian drones and missiles. Instead, Sikorski noted that the country has its own needs, in particular, it has only two Patriot systems, and Russian objects also fly into Polish territory.
The journalist reminded him that Poland had never shot them down, to which the minister said that they lacked the means even to defend themselves.
