On January 22, 2023, law enforcement officers conducted a special operation in Odesa, during which they detained Roman Hrynkevych. The detainee, together with his father, is suspected of involvement in a criminal group and fraud under martial law on a particularly large scale.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin officially announced the detention of Roman Hrynkevych at a briefing on January 22. According to him, the man tried to travel abroad and was detained while trying to cross the country’s borders.
Roman Hrynkevych: the charges
The charges against Roman Hrynkevych and his father are related to the case of supplying low-quality clothing to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the businessman’s companies won 23 tenders for the supply of clothing worth over UAH 1.5 billion. The investigation found that the terms of the contracts were violated and the businessman failed to fulfill his obligations to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The investigation proved that Roman Hrynkevych was planning to illegally cross the border of Ukraine. According to the SBI, he tried to arrange it to avoid liability to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.
Today, on January 22, the court is scheduled to choose a preventive measure for the detainee. The court is expected to determine his further fate.
