All but two allies support the idea of extending an official invitation to Ukraine to join NATO.
This was reported by Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, during a telethon.
Today, The New York Times reported that the United States and Germany oppose the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to NATO. According to Stefanishyna, this publication is aimed at preparing NATO member states and Ukraine to consider possible decisions at the upcoming NATO summit.
The Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration noted that Ukraine sets the agenda for issues that concern it. She emphasized that for Ukraine, the issue of an invitation to NATO is in the center of attention and will remain on the agenda for as long as it takes to make a decision.
Ukraine has put forward the idea of an invitation as a guarantee of NATO membership. This issue is already on the agenda. Almost all NATO members support this step, except for two. Since this information has become public, the United States and Germany are now focusing on other skeptical members of the alliance, such as Hungary and Slovakia. However, the key role belongs to these two countries.
