A parliamentary committee has supported an improved draft law to terminate the activities of the Commission for Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries and noted the need to strengthen oversight of the gambling sector.

This was reported by MP from the Voice party Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

He emphasized that the entire committee unanimously supported the strengthening of control over the gambling sector. The MP also expressed his belief that the ban will work only if shadow operations are effectively countered.

Thus, according to him, one of the criminal schemes of the gambling business – miscoding – has been eradicated so far. In this manipulation, players replenish their accounts on gambling platforms, but these payments are disguised as purchases of flowers or tickets when they reach banking systems.

Alternatively, players make transfers to banking institutions with the 7995 code for transactions, but then the bank, in cooperation with gambling platforms, sends these funds to fictitious accounts.

At the same time, the MP says that money laundering through cryptocurrency remains a problem. The fight against this scheme is still ahead.

Currently, draft law No. 9256 will expand the range of control over the gambling business. Thus, the document provides for the fight against advertising that makes manipulative references to volunteering, assistance to the Armed Forces, and a ban on sponsorship.

The draft law will also expand tools to restrict access to gambling for vulnerable citizens during martial law. In general, it will set more requirements for the gambling business, including the reputation of game organizers.
